PSC/PR/COMM.1240 (2024)Abstract
The PSC expressed deep concern about climate change’s impacts on Africa, especially its effects on peace and security, stressing the need for locally owned responses. Further, the Council highlighted the importance of conflict-sensitive, security-sensitive climate strategies that integrate peacebuilding and consider climate’s role in human mobility within conflict zones, aiming to guide policies addressing climate-induced displacement. The Council also urged comprehensive approaches to climate challenges like sea-level rise and desertification, advocating for cross-border cooperation and improved data sharing and analysis to strengthen responses under international frameworks.
